From Etosha to Okapuka Safari Lodge

The drive from Etosha to Windhoek is approximately 6 hours through gravel roads. Y You could do this all in one long travel day. We chose to break it up with a stop at Okapuka Safari Lodge about a half hour outside of Windhoek. This made our rental car drop off and transfer to the airport the next day a bit easier.
Okapuka Safari Lodge
This lodge is another in the Gondwana collection (as was Etosha King Nehale) which has properties at all price points throughout the country. We found their properties well appointed and staffed. This lodge was no exception with an included breakfast, pool and beautiful reception area. Ostriches and warthogs roamed freely on the grounds. The warthogs seemed to especially love trying to drink out of the sprinkler system. The lodge offered an afternoon tea and cake and we attempted to consume the largest slice of red velvet cake we’ve ever seen while watching the antics of the warthogs. At breakfast the next morning, the ostriches peered intently at us through the large glass windows as we ate breakfast. The dinner was not included but prices were reasonable and it was delicious.

The Magical White Rhino

We chose this lodge as it offered a sunset drive to see white rhinos. This lodge is a former enormous game farm that has been taken over by Gondwana. They have rhinos, leopards, antelope, ostriches, warthogs and more. It’s definitely easier to find game when it’s in a relatively known area. However, it was still very special to see the rhinos in the daylight. This 2.5 hour game drive was a perfect finale to our time in Namibia and offered one last sundowner cocktail while gazing at the burning glow of another African sunset.
